Truco supplies R18-million conveyor belting to Lumwana

Transvaal Rubber Company (Truco) has delivered conveyor belting to the value of R18-million to the Lumwana copper project in Zambia. The deal was awarded through tender.

The company supplied 10 000 metres of Contitech steel cord belting, as well as 550 metres of Truco textile flat belting to the project. Truco was also responsible for splicing the belts and supplying the skirting around the loading areas.

The Lumwana Mine, owned by Equinox Minerals, is located in the North Western Province of Zambia, 220 kilometres west of the Copperbelt. The mine has a projected production output of 169 000 tons of copper per year for the first 6 years and an expected life span of 37 years.

In addition to its complete range of conveyor belting, Truco offers conveyor belt accessories, including skirting, pulley lagging and combi scrapers. The skirting products have been designed to prolong conveyor life significantly with the correct fitment, while the company's large stockholding capabilities ensure product availability and short lead times.

Due to increased demand for its complete range of products throughout the African continent, Truco has boosted production accordingly, more than doubling outputs in the last 5 years. The company has also set into motion a growth strategy that includes the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Chamdor, Gauteng, and the appointment of a dedicated exports sales manager.
